Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is this house again? 501B South Virginia Dare Trail, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948 [map link]
When can we check-in on Saturday? The house should be ready at 4:15pm on Saturday, November 9th. You can check-in any time after that
Can we all park in that one lot? Twiddy & Company (rental agency) assures me the lot holds 36 cars but I can only make 24 fit using the measurements I have. If my calculations are correct, we will have 27-30 cars in the lot at any given time. When you do arrive, please try and use the spaces on the right-hand of the lot first and save the first two spots closest to the house on the left-hand side for deliveries. Use good judgment to try and use the least amount of space you can.
I have a Tesla. Can I charge my car on-site? There is one charger on the right-hand side of the house. We should save that spot closest to the house on that side for electric vehicles.
What happens if the lot gets full? I'm in conversations with the hotel next door (Shutters on the Banks) to see if we could park in their big grassy lot across the street.
How do we get in? Will we all get keys? The house has keyless entry and we will get the code when the house is ready on Saturday. I will communicate that code out to everyone as soon as I receive it.
I saw something about an elevator. Can we use that? Yes, there is an elevator that goes between the first three floors
I'm assuming there is Wifi in the beach house? Yes, Wifi network: KDRESORT ; Wifi password: KDRESORT0501
Can we do laundry on site? Yes, there are washers and dryers on every floor. We will be preliminarily stocking each laundry room with unscented liquid laundry detergent, bleach, color-safe bleach, and dryer sheets
I need my coffee. Tell me there's coffee. There are Keurig and drip coffee makers on each floor. We are stocking each floor with a variety of Keurig pods, non-dairy creamer, and half-and-half. These are just meant to be a standard offering to get us started. Feel free to acquire whatever you would prefer.
Are there other foodstuffs you will be providing? In the main kitchen on the 3rd floor, we will have a number of staples to start with: 2% milk, whole milk, soy milk, almond milk, half-and-half, heavy cream, butter, margarine, plant-based butter, cream cheese, dairy-free cream cheese, croissants, sandwich bread, GF sandwich bread, bagels, GF bagels, English muffins, GF English muffins, salt, pepper, olive oil, avocado oil, fruit, and salad & dressings for first three nights
What about drinks? Alcohol or otherwise? We have mixed up, and are bringing, eight gallons of cocktails and will serve a "Cocktail of the Night" during Happiest Hours each evening Saturday night through Friday night. Otherwise, since beverages are such a personal choice, we'd love people to bring whatever they'd like to drink and/or share.
Can we drive on the beach? Yes. And no. And yes. 4WD vehicles may drive on the beach north of Corolla to the Virginia border without the need for a permit. Non-residents may not drive on the beach from Corolla to Nags Head. You may drive on the beach throughout the Cape Hatteras National Seashore if you get a permit, which you can do online ($50 for 10 days) at https://www.recreation.gov/vehiclepermits/249978. Both allowed areas require you to have a 4WD and to air down your tires to at least 18psi.
I have an AWD car. That's good enough, right? No. Not at all. AWD vehicles are not equipped to get through the soft sand of the OBX. You can certainly try. Tow truck charges start at $650 to get a car out that's stuck in the sand.
I can see that a couple of the GOSH items require 4WD access. How can we get there if we don't have a 4WD vehicle? I would recommend coordinating with someone who did bring an actual 4WD vehicle. I will note that one of your Cruise Directors has such a vehicle, and if you ask her nicely she might drive some of your team members
I also see that some GOSH items are way down in Ocracoke. That seems very far away? How long does it take to get there? Ocracoke is an island and, yes, it takes 90 minutes of driving along with an hour on a free ferry just to go one-way. That's five hours round trip just to drive there and back. But it's also a lovely place to visit. Because of the time involved, we would recommend that if you are going to go to Ocracoke, you go on Tuesday when nothing else is planned for the evening. But you do you. Ferry schedule for BxB week is posted at the bottom of the weather page at: https://beach.bluebirdrva.com/home/weather-sun-moon-and-tide-info
For the GOSH, where do we upload our pictures and videos? Every team has their own Google drive to upload their photos and other documents to. You should have been notified of it earlier but if you have not, contact me and I will send it again. When uploaded, the name of the photo file should include the item # it is evidence for. You may submit your videos by uploading them to YouTube and entering your http://www.youtube.com links in a text document in your team's Google Drive. Be sure to mark your videos “UNLISTED” on YouTube so that we can see them, but no one else can. Unless otherwise specified video submissions can be NO LONGER than 20 seconds.
What if we want to share our own pictures at beach that aren't about the hunt? In our 'shared' BXB folder, there's a folder for photos that anyone in the BXB group can upload to. You can reach that at: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1bQqI7JmQYvPAQl02uIGpGPv5doJ65m4p?usp=drive_link
I have other GOSH questions! I refer you to The GOSH Commandments at https://beach.bluebirdrva.com/home/the-gosh/the-gosh-commandments
When do we have to be out of the house and what needs to be done? Check-out is 10am on Saturday, November 16th. Basically, we just need to tidy up inside by wiping down counters and tables, putting items back that may have been moved, and try to leave the home like we found it as best we can. This includes tidying up outside including the decks, yard, and pool area, as well as cleaning the grill with the brush provided. We also need to remove all food from the pantry and refrigerators and set their temperature to medium. We need to load and start the dishwasher. Finally, please leave all linens on beds and towels in the rooms for which they were provided.
