The Outer Banks is one of our favorite places to visit and we wanted to share everything it has to offer with our campers. But the Outer Banks is over 100 miles long and filled with incredible natural beauty within its abundance of parks and wildlife areas, a plethora of historic sites from fortresses to gardens to lighthouses, numerous breweries & distilleries, over 300 restaurants with many serving up local seafood, scores of outdoor activities from fishing to hang gliding, a bevy of beautiful beaches to relax on, and all of it spread across over 20 lovely towns.
But how do we give our campers the opportunity to experience it all that doesn't involve gathering 50-60 people in cars every morning and leading them en masse to the things on some sort of structured schedule? We don't claim to know everyone's likes and dislikes nor do we want to impose our own schedule on people trying to have a nice vacation. The solution we came up with is The Great OBX Scavenger Hunt, or The GOSH.
If you ever went to camp, you were probably grouped together in a cabin, or a patrol, or some other kind of team to participate in activities. We would like to form our large group into six such teams of 6-8 people that hopefully include others that you don't know as well, or at all. Those teams will work to complete scavenger hunt items during the week with each one awarding a number of points that reflect to distance needed to travel, the terrain that you need to traverse, and the inherent difficulty of the task itself. As of this posting date, those points range from 5-30. Most of the tasks require a photo or video of your team completing the task.

The list is posted here and is not very useful to you right now (unless you'd like to research the Mother Vine) but the entire list will be posted for teams on Friday, October 25th, about two weeks ahead of camp. Please see The Commandments for specifics on the completion of Hunt Items
<sigh> yes. Sorry. We want to make it fun for everyone and we know rules are not normally associated with any kind of fun. But, in the interest of clarification and transparency, we have one or two (or 36) little points for everyone to understand and provide some guidance so everybody is playing the same game.
